Siren Song

It was my supreme pleasure to see Lana Del Rey in concert last evening. It was her Endless Summer tour and I was looking forward to music on a summer night, amphitheater acoustics making the event spectacular all the while the rays of the sun edging toward earth in a fiery sunset while a mild breeze ruffled my hair and caressed my face.

Mother Nature had other plans….unfortunately.

First let me say that despite it all I had a great time. I adore Lana and her music and this was truly a treat for me to see her.

The previous week should have been a predictor but it hadn’t been. We’d been inundated by storms and constant rain for over a week but the temperatures had been relatively mild, in keeping with the month. Yesterday it rained again. And rained and rained. By the time the concert had started, I, clad in jeans and rain gear, was a bedraggled mess and freezing. The temperature had unexpectedly dropped and was 46 degrees. I was wishing I had gloves. The wind conspired to make us uncomfortable, drenching us periodically with the rain, which since we were not on the lawn we escaped. For the most part.

I have to give major props to Lana. Here it was raining, cold and windy and she came out on stage in a very summery short dress and bare legs. Looking beautiful, of course. She must have been freezing but gave no hint of it.

Her set included many songs from her latest album, Ultraviolence, but also some old favorites such as Born to Die, Cola, Blue Jeans, Video Games and Summertime Sadness. At one point she even did a cover of a Leonard Cohen song.

It may not have been a perfect night for outdoor music but it was still a perfect night, frozen fingers and toes and all.

If you ever get the chance to see her you simply must. She sounds just as amazing in person as she does on her records.

When My Time Is Done…

Echoing my own thoughts…

Words across the Oceans

When my time is done

Merge me back

To where I belong

Within the place that brings me peace

My Solace, My Soul, My Sea…

That’s My Superpower

I‘ve no superhuman powers of deduction

I don’t have a magic rope

That lassos truth and information from others

It is true that I am intuitive

Very much so

But my actual power lay

In listening

In paying attention

In noticing subtle details

And filing them away

In understanding

But above all

I know how to put those pieces

I’ve been given

I’ve discovered

I know how to put them together

To solve the riddle

To finish the puzzle

To often give me answers

Which are not forthcoming

In any other way

Being highly aware and accepting of others…

That’s my superpower…

Stunning words from a talented poetess….

Souldier Girl

Swollen sensitive heart

Wishing and longing

For a gentle adoration

All the nervous places

Blistered and bitten

Weep against the rain

Blending upon a camoflaughed face

Where one finds a collapsed smile

And eyes lined

with crusted prayers.

Her Neck

He adored her neck.

Her skin

Pale and perfect

Had the bloom of a rose

In winter.

Her neck,

With its pale elegance,

He knew

If it were possible

Would be a place of pilgrimage.

A holy site.

One that he would readily worship at

Using all of his senses.

Running his nose along to catch her scent

It’s heady fragrance making him dizzy

With desire.

Lifting her hair and using his mouth

To leave kisses along its length

Feeling her wildly beating pulse

Beneath his lips.

His teeth would graze her skin

Igniting nerve endings

Causing a bolt of desire to shoot through her.

And finally, his tongue would taste her

Her unique flavor greeting his mouth

In celebration.

Lost In It

He wanted her lost.

Lost in him

Lost in them

Lost in it.

And that she was.

She was awash

In feelings and desires

So new to her.

A flickering flame once gone unnoticed within

Was now burning furiously

It’s blue fire strong and true

Her passions released at last.

In what can only be described as destiny

He caught her scent

He sensed her on the waves

And captured her within his net of words

As she bravely swum through darkness

For the first time.

Her curiosity

Compelling her

To make that journey.

She did not know him

Yet it seems she was always

Aware of him.

Just beyond her reach

His voice in the night

Calling to her

Guiding her

To him.

Chasing Relentlessly

Siren Whispers

Chasing relentlessly

After my dream

Following my instincts

Like a legend on a map

Digging deep

For faith and hope

When the goal

Seems unreachable

The obstacles

Going limp within a rip tide

Letting it pull me under

As I gather strength

And surge to the top

Into the breach once more
