The Day Is Cold

The day is cold

The last vestiges of winter

Clutching at me

The howling winds whip through the trees

And make the house groan and creek with displeasure

I am bundled up in a plaid throw

Ensconced in front of the hearth

Where the fire is hissing and crackling

The heat radiating out

Warming me

Attempting to thaw the deep chill in my bones

I lay there in silence

Watching the light change and shift in the windows

Appreciating the quiet despite a fully occupied house

Thoughts of you creep in

As they always do

Memories

Big and small

Recent and distant

Memories that I take out

Dust off

Caress with affection

And then carefully put away

In my safe and secret box

*This particular piece has been languishing in my drafts folder

which is why it references winter and we are nearly to summer. Smiles.

I created this blog as a way to express myself using my poetry and photography. It is a reflection of who I am and of the things that interest me. I have many muses…perhaps the greatest one being my love of the sea, how I gravitate to anything relating to water, how I feel a pull toward it deep in my bones. At times I will be revisiting content that I have shared on Twitter which has, until now, been the forum I have expressed myself in. That said, the content will change over time as the blog grows and develops. It is my hope that the reader will enjoy the journey.
