Drowning

IMG_7098blue

Pain doesn’t advance in degrees.

It’s a sudden deluge

overtaking you,

filling up your lungs

with every kind of darkness

and bile.

A hand rises from below,

feeble with exhaustion,

trying to find the strength

to battle;

drowning in what is,

seeking to swim

in what will be.

Drowning

FullSizeRender

The water slips over her head

It’s warm

It should be soothing

But it’s not

It’s jarring to her senses

She sinks down

Farther and farther

She’s drowning

In her own needs and desires

In her feelings

But there is no escape for her

It is out of her hands

She has no control

As she realizes this

She sinks faster

Her anxiety plummeting her

Further

Into despair

For she’s not only drowning

She’s lost something

She’s lost faith

Faith that if you tried hard enough

If you wanted it bad enough

That you could succeed

The magic and innocence in that belief is gone

She feels flat

Empty

Hollow

The beacon that had always shone so bright for her

Extinguished

And now all she wants is to sink deeper

And feel nothing

Ever again

Swimming in Moonlight

photo

She is swimming in the moonlight

Of his velvety words

Words of love, desire, yearning

For something more…

She sinks down under the blanket

Of darkness that these words

Cause to bubble to the surface

She is captured by them

A willing prisoner

But longs to capture

For herself

The man whose words

Have her drowning in him

Unable to take a breath

Because he has them all…
