Siren Whispers

Siren Song

Just there

The curve draws his attention.

His fingers and lips

ache to touch

to plant a kiss.

Just there.

He yearns to know

her scent

her feel

her taste.

He knows she’d sigh.

That she aches to feel his breathe

Just there.

So close.

She shudders in expectation.

Her thighs begin to tremble.

She holds her breath

where his lips

will land next.

Will they?

Just there…

The word is loaded with images

With preconceived notions.

Expectation is a difficult thing to balance.

Your expectations

Of yourself

Of others.

Their expectations of you.

Managing them often seems to be a full-time job.

I struggle with expectation

Knowing that, while my standards and expectations are not low,

That I understand human fallibility.

I understand

That while we all struggle to do our best

To follow the right path

That sometimes we fall short.

I know I do

Frequently it seems.

I suppose that when it comes to others

That I take the glass is half full approach

Or even “Yes! We have water in the glass!”

I don’t tend to see one event as all encompassing.

While it may disappoint

I tend to look at the big picture.

I see every change, every positive moment

As a step forward.

I try not to focus on times when there are slip ups.

To me that is destructive and without hope

And I think we must all have hope

In order to move through each day

Trying our best

Accepting with gratitude

The good days

The days that make us smile

That make us believe
