Siren Whispers

Siren Song

The way she falls

She was a discovery waiting to happen.

The moment he saw her he knew

evocative of the unexpected scene you come upon

as you wander an unknown path;

eyes widening just a bit,

smile flirting at the edges of your mouth,

something to enrich your senses

and take your breath

and oh how he wanted to get lost,

lost in the way she falls.

and in the way he catches her.

A low growl

It was unexpected

and anonymous,

but anything but quiet,

as it arrived with a low growl

that reverberated against my ribs…

like a prisoner banging a cup against bars

or a storm descending with ferocity.

My mind raced with fervent thoughts,

my pulse sprinting toward some unknown finish line,

until I was breathless with the endeavour,

my skin flushed with an awareness

as the seams of my composure

one stitch

at a time.

to find a voice that so clearly spoke

to the quiet whisper within me.

Eyes that looked at me

and saw everything that I was

everything I could be

everything that I would be.

A twin soul

whose needs matched my own

whose thoughts reflected those I kept hidden

deep inside.

Our interwoven psyches

allowing us to know

with ease

what the other wanted, needed.

No longer misunderstood by myself

a clear path was shown

answers to questions I had always evaded

were mine.

The guiding light

to my descent into this dark realm

a perfect fit

his hand in mine

the only one I’d trust

to lead me on this journey

I was destined to take.

It seems to come from all sides

She feels powerless against it

The tears that fall

Leave permanent tracks

To show that they have been there

Again and again

She doesn’t understand why

They well up in her eyes

Great big silver drops

That seem to consume her eyelashes

Surreptitiously she wipes them away

But she cannot hide the glassy look that is left behind

A tell tale sign

That there have been tears

She doesn’t want the pain

Who does?

But she feels things so keenly

That it is impossible

To escape unscathed

Feeling her own feelings

And other’s too
