Devastation

There can be such devastation in love.

We give ourselves up to the romance

the passion

the absolute knowing of another.

We gladly sink into the essence of the other person.

Often we give all of ourselves

as a way of aligning with the one we love.

We want them to know us

to accept us.

Unconditional love

such a precious thing.

We don’t realize how much we desperately want to be seen

to be known

to be accepted

and yes, loved

for who we are

not for who they think we should be.

We can be denied this for years

never realising what was missing

until one day we are shown.

Our eyes are opened

our souls are touched

we are released from the chains

we’ve been bound in.

We realize just how hungry we are to have it

how it consumes every single, solitary inch of us

until we are dying of thirst

amidst a pool of water.

I created this blog as a way to express myself using my poetry and photography. It is a reflection of who I am and of the things that interest me. I have many muses…perhaps the greatest one being my love of the sea, how I gravitate to anything relating to water, how I feel a pull toward it deep in my bones. At times I will be revisiting content that I have shared on Twitter which has, until now, been the forum I have expressed myself in. That said, the content will change over time as the blog grows and develops. It is my hope that the reader will enjoy the journey.

Christine gets at the very core of what we all seek. She writes beautifully all of the time, but this particular writing of hers is pure essence and truth.

  13. Masterfully written. “True love” is a yearning in all of us, but to find it in a lasting form eludes many, yet we still search the desert for an oasis.

  15. A deep clarity to this poem. Like looking down a well — but the water is not dark, and instead the bottom can be seen. And the words of this poem are written there.
